Eisch Family History and the Glassmaker Tradition

Eisch Glass Workshop

The Eisch family has a 300 year history of glass blowing in Germany. Erwin Eisch is still known as the modern day pioneer and spiritual father of the studio glass movement in Europe. Erwin's freely blown glass series called "Poetry in glass" was created in 1977 and garnered worldwide fame. He was an innovator creating many works in flowing shapes that were designed into multi colored objects using the most varied furnace and cold glass techniques. His works are highly regarded and still sought out by Collector's today.

Since 1993 a new generation controls the Eisch family business. The responsibility for the Eisch glass factory rests with Julia Eichinger-Eisch and Eberhard Eisch. It was their vision and guidance that led to six years of research and testing by the engineers at Eisch to create the world’s first ever breathable wine glass.

The key benefits for Eisch Breathable Glasses are:

  • Healthier, unlike other premium stemware brands Eisch contains no lead.
  • Less breakage. Without the lead Eisch glasses are less brittle. The Eisch Superior line is a 1 piece glass versus most competitors which are 3 pieces glued at the bulb, stem & base. Breakage usually occurs in one of these 3 areas.
  • A wine poured into an Eisch breathable glass for just 2 to 4 minutes will show signs of aeration equivalent to the same wine that has been decanted and aerated for 1 to 2 hours. The original character and structure of the wine are preserved, yet the wine’s aroma and palate impression become more open, generous and polished.
  • Eisch Breathable stemware is less expensive than a comparable glass from the leading premium stemware brand.
